How to replace drive path /dev/sda by /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD8004FRYZ-01VAEB0_VY1N6EPM (the same drive) in ZFS pool

How to replace /dev/sda with /dev/disk/by-id/ata-WDC_WD8004FRYZ-01VAEB0_VY1N6EPM ?
This is the same drive.

I would like to change identification label/drive path of drive only in zfs pool.

Export the pool and import it specifying -d /dev/disk/by-id/ parameter. It would be nice if we allow to set the path property live, or somehow else do it, but I don't think we do now.

Did this recently, I went so far as to delete /dev/disk-by/wwn-* dev files to make sure ata-* variants will be used.

In my experience, that's the exact opposite of what you want.

Up to you, but I will stick with serial numbers. I can read serial numbers on the HDDs when I want to replace a disk. I cannot read wwn.

The WWN is also on the label, and if you ever move to SAS it's much more important.

And what if the zpool is used and its a root partition? Could it be done without downtime somehow?
