Can't get voice-recorder to install

Trying to install voice-recorder app on a Motorola g power running android 15 but I can't get it to work. After install I enter the app and it asks me to pick a place to save the recordings before I can do anything. regardless of which folder I pick I get an error pop-up that says "Wrong folder selected, please select path 'Root' ".
If I try selecting the root I get a different error pop-up that says "The system does not allow the operation in this folder, please p..." I'm guessing that I must have disabled something that it causing this failure but I can't figure out what it is. Does anyone have any ideas?

Currently, there are two steps:

• Pick the right folder in the in-app dialog. You must pick a folder like Internal/Recordings here, not Internal.
• After you tap OK, make sure you are on the same path you selected in step 1, and then allow access.

Yep, that's what I do. I pick the default folder that it recommends which is usually internal/music/recordings and after I tap OK I get that error (Wrong folder selected, please select path 'Root'). I try to pick different folders and I get the same error regardless of what folder I pick.

Calendar works fine and notes works fine but I have not tried camera app. I will download and try now and let you know.

OK, I just downloaded and installed camera app and chose all the default locations that were suggested and it works fine and saves fine. I cannot change the default folder or I get the same error where it fails and suggests root. But if I leave everything default it works fine.
