There's no intention to limit the apps to features available in Google apps, but simplicity is one of the priorities.
Currently, this can be achieved by creating a separate calendar for those recurring events and then hiding that calendar from the UI. |

I love that Fossify is recreating the Google app collection without the Google-evil. I also apologize if I'm going over issues already discussed and most certainly am not trying to downplay the work needed to get to this stage. I also have to state that I am not an Android developer so I don't know what restrictions may be placed on apps by the basic Android database sets.
Having said that, I'd like to suggest that an attempt be made to go beyond merely recreating functionality and add features that Google (and many other apps) doesn't have.
At the moment, I'm searching for a calendar app that replicates as many of the functions as possible of the Windows calendar app that I've been using for 20+ years: UK's Kalender https://www.ukrebs-software.de/
The single biggest feature that I miss is the ability to make events hidden. There are dozens of recurring events in daily life and the ability to be reminded about them is something that I find essential (I'm 70 => memory not so good anymore). What I don't need is having my calendar cluttered up with all these reminders. The ability to hide an event allows this event to still post a notification while not being visible in the calendar unless a "Show hidden..." box is ticked.
This seems to me as if it should be a trivial addition, but I realize that there are likely issues that may not make it so.
In any case, thanks for the work being done by all the volunteers.
