Error upgrading guile

Not sure if this is just me or everybody. I'm using brew on linux, and for the last couple months, attempting to upgrade/install guile returns the below error message. I'm not finding too much useful information online, so I'm hoping somebody can point me in the right direction.

Might be your host compiler.

Try doing

brew install --force-bottle gcc
brew install --cc=gcc-11 guile

If that doesn't help, then I'm not really sure what's wrong. I suggest installing Homebrew into /home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew so you don't need to compile guile from source.

That gave the same error. I unfortunately cant use /home/linuxbrew . Thanks anyway for trying.

I can build guile-3.0.7 successfully outside of brew. The problem with the brew build looks like it's related to relative paths, perhaps due to a non-standard install location?

The configure run shows that it finds ./build-aux/install-sh, but the make fails with make[2]: .././build-aux/install-sh: Permission denied. See: 02.make

That's possible, but it doesn't explain why we can't reproduce that in CI. Can you add --disable-silent-rules to the ./configure invocation, and change "make", "install" to "make", "V=1", "install" so we get more verbose logs?

It hasn't bugged me so far running on the older version that built, but if it does, I may just put in the effort to switch to the standard installation path

That smells like a bug in Gnulib. It seems different from the error reported by @malvidrez-gov, but at least it matches the one in your first post. Try adding this before the invocation of configure:

ENV.append "CFLAGS", "-D__nonnull\\(params\\)="
