v2.11.0-alpha release checklist

This discussion aims to list all tasks to be completed in order to release a v2.11.0-alpha version. Important: this discussion is restricted to v2.11.0-alpha.

General

• Decide what date we precisely target for v2.11.0-alpha release
• Decide what Deadline we retain for additional changes to be accepted inv 2.11.0-alpha (see main discussion)*
• Prepare announcements

LuxCoreDeps

• Clean the code (conanfile, github actions etc.)
• Add feature to record build information (compiler name, compiler version, build timestamp, SDK, deps versions...) in the deps archive
• Decide what version of nvrtc we pin in dependencies (it will be 13.0.88)
• Ensure there is no more vulnerability (https://github.com/LuxCoreRender/LuxCoreDeps/security/code-scanning)
• Merge for_v1.1into main
• Define next version numbering - 2.0.0
• Release LuxCoreDeps 2.0.0
• Write Change log

LuxCore

• Update deps pointer in LuxCore to LuxCoreDeps 2.0.0
• In wheel dependencies (pyproject.toml), synchronize nvrtc version to the one selected in LuxCoreDeps
• Add a hook in CMakeLists for distro packagers, to allow replacement of Conan deps with distro's ones (the hook should gather all FindPackage) The feature is easy to implement, but useless. Previous design choices (among them embedding dependency executables, like OIDN) makes the build too tricky. We'll stick to make deps && make
• Show build information provided by deps
• Identify and implement additional enhancements
• Merge branch bugfix_texturetransforms (currently in CodeFHD fork) after the following issues are closed:
  • 2D Mapping rotation does not respect Center Map #644
  • 3D Random Local mapping different from 3D Local mapping #656

LuxCoreDeps Change Log for V2.0.0

blender dependency removal. LuxCore should be agnostic towards Blender, from now
nvrtc upgraded to 13.1.115
embree upgraded to version 4
Use of jpeg-turbo instead of plain jpeg

Port of MacOS builds to Github macos-15 runners, due to closure announcement for macos-13 runner
tbb activation for OpenImageIO

LuxCore Change Log for v2.11.0-alpha0

blender dependency removal. LuxCore should be agnostic towards Blender, from now. As a side-benefit, this implies compatibility with Blender 5.0
Support for Python 3.14 (and removal of end-of-life 3.9)
Fix crash on OpenCL, if no OpenCL implementation can be found on system. The same on CUDA.
Refactoring on pointers and memory handling to replace (most of) raw pointers by smart pointers. Fix several subtle bugs concerning memories (leaks, double free, null pointer dereferencing...), should ameliorate stability.
Allow compilation with memory sanitizer
Fix a few race conditions (addMsg in luxcoreui, access on properties in bake engine...)
Remove pyside dependency (for pyluxcoretools)
Set MacOS runners to MacOS15, following Github end-of-support for previous MacOS13
Add Merge-On-Distance new shape plugin (a preliminary node for subdivision)
Faster Subdivision mode
Fixes to bidir (@CodeFHD): should be completed
