Flash using usb stick

Does board (Thor, Orin) can be flashed using meta-tegra layer using new bootable usb stick as described here by NVIDIA: flash procedure? Or does this procedure is independent from Yocto?

I am aware of this branch, I understood that old way flash is supported but not the new one regarding usb stick.
I guess this is more related to the new uefi version than Yocto.

What that page you linked to describes is not a new flashing procedure, it's simply a Ubuntu installer/live image on a USB stick. You still have to flash boot firmware into the SPI flash over USB. For the Thor devkits, NVIDIA pre-loads a version of the boot firmware in the factory.

I am not sure about that, for me they explain that we can boot from the USB stick but then, the step 4 "Select Flash Jetson Thor AGX Developer Kit on NVMe 0.2.0-r38.1" seems to copy what is inside the USB stick to the NVMe

The procedure looks pretty clear now JetPack 7.1 is out.
It clearly indicates there is no need to flash over USB using a host (only USB stick):

It’s a new process introduced with JetPack 7.0 (and continued in later versions) that enables you to install the Jetson BSP (Jetson Linux) without using a host Ubuntu PC

I've check into their ISO and mount ubuntu-server-minimal.ubuntu-server.installer.kernel.nvidia.squashfs -> we can see that autoinstall.yaml executes scripts into ai folder. Then it looks a little bit harder to get whet's going on exactly but we can see they are using /opt/nvidia/ptable.nvme.dynamic to list partitions the NVMe for example. Then curtin is used to install ubuntu.

We can probably make some adaptation to generate a similar process by creating similar bootable USB stick with custom preseed.sh script ?
