Plex access

I'd pay good money for a way to use Audacious to play my audio from my Plex server. A search said this has never been discussed, which surprises me. Is it a verboten topic?

I'm assuming it hasn't been done because Plex doesn't make it possible. If I were to go ask in THEIR support for that access, what kinds of things should I be asking for?

It is of course not a verboten topic. As a German, I learned today that this German word can also be used in English. 🙂

Plex is unknown to me. If it can stream audio over HTTP or provides support for a NFS/SMB share, Audacious can play your files this way.

I'm not sure it's super common, my dad just used to say it all the time. :) But it's close enough in sound to forbidden that I think most Americans would understand.

I'm not sure the Plex folk will ever make that happen, but you reminded me all I really need to do is set up sshfs on my local machine and connect to my server and I'll be all set.

its mostly unlikely somebody would use Audio player with Plex. most people using plex with Tv device or on phone, that's people have plus in first place, you would not have custom audio player installed on those devices. Plex audio player does the job, most poeple using plex only for video. the plex would try keep everything under their control/App/UI for different reasons....

I assume most audacious are using it on linux and if you already on Linux system you have media server which you own. for plex you need log-in into their system etc... there plenty of alternative out there. I mounted my music folder on local network and audacious just points there. simple and easy solution and its faster anyway it does not bottleneck to a slow solution like Plex.
