"Gaming" bottles break contoller and wine-mono

I have an 8bitdo Ultimate 2 controller, it is detected as XInput in Bottles using the Application or Custom template, but not Gaming template.
The kron4ek-wine-10.6-amd64 runner complains about wine-mono not found in Gaming bottles, and indeed applications using .Net won't launch (neither with soda runner). Does not happen in "Application" bottles. wine-mono is installed as dependencies in both.

What's causing this and how can I fix it?
Alternatively, it seems the Gaming template is quite broken. Can I use the Application template to run games? What are the customizations for the Gaming bottles (where is the template file)?

Corrupted templates. Delete the templates at ~/.var/app/com.usebottles.bottles/data/bottles/templates.
