Specify Compiler Version

Is there a way to specify a particular version of a compiler to use in the poac.toml?

@oraqlle No since we can specify the C++ version in edition. Poac automatically detects whether or not your compiler supports the specified edition. If your edition is 2020 but your GCC is 7, then the compilation fails. The logic is here:

Hmm, C++ compiler is usually installed in system environment with system package manager, so I don't really find this feature useful. It would be useful if we could set up the compiler with specified version in local environment easily with something equivalent to rustup .

I ask because I have many different versions of GCC installed (v9-13). While the default system on is good for 99% of cases, being able to use say the new GCC-13.1 (eg. use the actual standard <format> library finally) with a Poac project would be nice.

I would say it would be better to delay the implementation of fine-grained version specifications. This is because many developers currently opt to specify the exact C++ version and handle the details, such as the <format> implementation, using macros. Given that macros can tackle this, it should not be a top priority.
