Redshift JDBC 2.x Drivers

Has anyone looked at using Redshift JDBC 2.x drivers with DBeaver? It appears there is a significant difference between the 1.x and 2.x jdbc drivers dealing with datatypes. Possibly this is already in the works someplace.

I am wondering if there would be better benefit in accessing redshift specific datatypes (no real use case in mind, just feels that way).
