Langfuse Free Plan Data Retention Issue (Data Only Visible for 3 Days)

I am using the Langfuse free package, and I have hosted the application on a VM using Docker. However, it only keeps data for 3 days. After that, all the data seems to be deleted, or I can no longer see it. What is the problem? I cannot see the Data Retention data in the settings.

Based on the documentation, the Data Retention feature is not available in the OSS (open source) version you're using(1). Data retention configuration is only available in the Pro, Enterprise, and Self-Hosted Enterprise Edition plans(1).

By default, Langfuse stores event data (Traces, Observations, Scores, and Media Assets) indefinitely(1). The 3-day visibility issue you're experiencing is not related to a built-in retention policy in the OSS version.

The most likely causes for your data disappearing after 3 days are:

1. Docker volume persistence issues - Your Docker setup may not be properly persisting the PostgreSQL database data. Check that your database volumes are correctly configured and not being removed(2).

2. Database corruption or disk space issues - Similar to cases documented in the community, database files may be getting corrupted or deleted due to disk failures or insufficient storage(3).

3. Infrastructure-level cleanup - Your VM or hosting environment may have automatic cleanup policies removing Docker volumes or database files.

To troubleshoot:

• Verify your Docker Compose configuration includes proper volume mappings for PostgreSQL
• Check disk space on your VM
• Ensure database files persist across container restarts
• Review your Docker logs for any database connection errors(4)

If you need data retention policies (automatic deletion after a specified period), you would need to upgrade to the Enterprise Edition, where you can configure retention on a project level with a minimum of 3 days(1).
