To date mint has used the ubiquity installer from ubuntu. Ubuntu switched to a new installer with 23.10, unfortunately for mint my understanding is that this is a snap package so I assume it will not be used in mint. So the open question is what will mint use for LM23? If mint continue to use ubiquity will the mint team pick up maintenance?
The reason behind the question is that there is a long standing (years) bug in ubiquity when installing UEFI dual boot on separate drives. Ubiquity ignores what it is told and puts grub in the first EFI partition it finds. This still catches out newcomers to mint, and something we have to sort out on the LM forum.
I also have issues with the way ubiquity does a legacy install. If the user does a "something else" install and does not have an EFI partition (it is not needed), the installer complains with a warning that the system may not boot. Another bug that also trips up/frightens newbies.
