If your CPU is not supported by power-profiles performance mode is not available, end of story.

Please report this problem to the power-profiles team if you can.

Furthermore given the specs of your computer it seams to be an old CPU and as such performance mode will not help you, all it does is force the CPU to it's max clock speed, balanced mode will allow your system to use it's full power if it is called for.

If you would like to remove the CPU governor just remove "power-profiles-daemon" with the software manager.

@tovicito Since It is from 2013, last supported in 2021, Given it's age it does not seem to have a power profile to use anyway, only much newer designs have them so power-profiles provides safe options as a workaround.

In short just remove power-profiles and the default governor will be a much better choice "sudo apt-get remove power-profiles-daemon" as long as no other packages will be pulled out with it, it is safe to remove just restart your pc your problem should be fixed. The software center can also remove it if you prefer the GUI option, but I figured it would be a good idea to provide a command line option to hopefully get around language translation problems.
