I have a laptop that has a fingerprint reader which is supported by fingerprintd, but I needed to use the terminal to be able to use it and set it up, after it was properly enabled I could use my fingerprint to log in normally. Considering how many corporate, hospital, and high end laptops and even external fingerprint readers available, or better yet RFID like in hospitals and the current direction tech and biosecurity is going (for better or worse) out of the box support and interrogation would be nice modern feature to add.
