I know that palm detection is one of the challenges of coding the X window input system. I watched a recent lecture by Peter Hutterer, the principle maintainer of the X11 input code, on this very topic. I'm not sure how the Wayland protocol would handle this, but xlibinput may already have feature features that would allow this request to be implemented without too much trouble, since LM already uses xlibinput. If not, raising the point at https://www.x.org might move things forward. |

"Disable touchpad while typing" has not mitigated palm-clicks on a Dell Precision 5560 laptop with a very sensitive and wide touch-pad. I see that Plasma 6 how has "palm detection" with a sensitivity slider underneath. While I don't want Cinnamon to become bloated, I feel that this is a feature that is becoming increasingly important as more laptops adopt wide touchpads.
