Yes, the GTK chooser has inadequacies that people have been complaining about since I switched to Linux Mint a couple of years ago. However, in its defense, it does pick up the locations I've dragged into the Nemo "Places" panel, including a couple on an externally-mounted drive. You can also get to any location in the file system by clicking on the "Other Locations" button and navigating to it. But that last is, of course, a daunting task for users who have been trained by Windows to expect it all to be done for them, so I sympathize. |

Restoring the "Recent Locations" functionality that has existed before until Mint 18 would largely solve this same problem, see #1093. |

The file-picker / file-saving dialog of Linux Mint (Cinnamon 6.4.8) doesn't show the internal drives or network drives in the sidebar like nemo does.
It does show external drives like USB sticks, but not internal drives like a HDD.
I have to always click on "Other Locations", then I'm able to pick the drive I want.
I tried Favorites, and it does add an entry there, but it's the same as "Other Locations". Multiple clicks to get to my location.
I tried Bookmarks, but that doesn't change anything on those dialogs, only in nemo.
Is there no option to show the same sidebar as in nemo?
Edit: I'm talking about this:
