Hi. This is a suggestion.
The reason is that - from what I've found - since year 2016 at least, many nVidia users, including me, have found that Linux Mint Cinnamon edition is broken, at least when installed in a virtual machine software (eg. VMWare WorkStation). Theoretically not all nVidia users are affected, but more than should be.
In short, after installing the O.S and booting it, the user gets a black-screen and the graphical interface gets completely unusable.
I've written the next thread on forums.linuxmint.com where I explain in deep the issue and the symptoms, I've included few articles on the Internet of other affected users, and also I've included a recorded a video of less than two minutes on Youtube demonstrating the issue:
And I have also expressed what my proposal is to solve the problem, which consists of not including the nouveau driver by default (I say this from the complete lack of knowledge of driver compatibility in Linux), or simply modifying the Cinnamon installer to include an option similar to the one included in the Ubuntu Cinnamon installer:
This way, the user has a choice and can, in the simplest and most appropriate way, prevent a catastrophe that prevents them from using the installed operating system in cases like mine.
I also think the installer should warn some users about this potential problem when installing these drivers (nouveau), if it is an installation under a virtual machine.
Finally, I want to say that I'm someone who doesn't know anything advanced about Linux systems. I'm also ignorant of many basic things; I've only been using Linux for a couple of days. I shouldn't have to do and write all this, but the truth is that I really liked Linux Mint Cinnamon, and I'd like to believe that I'm doing my humble and insignificant bit in this way, trying to make this operating system better for everyone and bug-free for users like me, by shifting this problem to the genius developers.
Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.
Best regards,
Elektro.
