Probably you moved your desktop picture, so Mint can't find it anymore. I keep all my desktop pictures in a dedicated folder for this purpose. Or this is just a bug with Xia, can't confirm because I'm using an older version of Mint |

DESCRIPTION OF PROBLEM
The desktop wallpaper feature doesn't work correctly. If you select the right mouse button on the desktop then a tool list is displayed which says "change desktop background". After selecting a downloaded file, the file disappears after reboot, and you have to begin the process again. This problem occurs regardless of which wallpaper is downloaded.
Folks in Debian thought there might be instructions in the settings area, but after additional research I determined that is a different tool for a different problem that has nothing to do with the wallpaper. The tools in settings are intended to change the color schemes of various pages, icons, etc.
SOLUTION
Seems to be a software bug since the associated screen shouldn't disappear until something else is associated with it instead of after every reboot.
