What is the point of the SocialLanding component?

As of this moment the code of the <SocialLanding /> component looks like this:

It makes the Google logo appear for a fraction of a second when I sign in using the Google connector, but still very noticeable. I was able to capture that moment:

The code looks very intentional, but I don't understand the reason. What is the point? Couldn't it be just a loader?
