micropython/lora ... is it possible to use reliable_delivery in a TX/RX setup?

Can the receiver be turned-off to enable the sender to run? I really like some of the features in reliable_delivery but need the ability to send infrequent sensor data and listen for commands from a "local. And for the local to listen for sensor data and to send commands.
