I2S not working in 1.22.0/1 and 1.23-preview.

Hi I am trying to get audio working with this Pico audio board https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/pico-audio-pack?variant=32369490853971. It works fine with MicroPython 1.21 I2S module, but not with newer versions. Even this small part from the I2S examples just stalls after the initialization of I2S and never reaches the "Generating samples" print statement:

See issue #13380 , and see discussion at end. Seems the team is working on it.
