Which boards do SSL certificate validation to resist man-in-the-middle attacks?

I see this note in the ssl documentation, but which boards does this apply to? Hoping that ESP32 or Pico do cert validation.

Warning: Some implementations of ssl module do NOT validate server certificates, which makes an SSL connection established prone to man-in-the-middle attacks.

Same documentation says the following. The way I read this, if the port uses mbedtls it validates if you use CERT_REQUIRED. Did I read that correctly?

Note that for mbedtls based ports, ssl.CERT_NONE and ssl.CERT_OPTIONAL will not validate any certificate, only ssl.CERT_REQUIRED will.
