I was given this on the forum:

You can exit from normal machine.sleep() using any pin, and either rising or falling, like this:

p = machine.Pin('X1', machine.Pin.IN, machine.Pin.PULL_UP)
p.irq(trigger=machine.Pin.IRQ_RISING, handler=lambda p:None)
machine.sleep()

But to exit from machine.deepsleep() you must use X1 (=PA0) and it requires special code to enable this feature:

X1 will be in input pull-down mode and will wake the MCU when it goes high. Unfortunately there is no way to make it pull-up and wake when it goes low (deep sleep is very low power consumption and only a handful of features are enabled during this mode).

Is [stm.PWR+0x08] the same as stm.PWR_CSR?

Your circuit shows User KEY pulling PA0 low.

I would put the switch in series with a 10K resistor up to 3V3. Sorry, it has been 6 months since ! was looking at this issue.
