Upgrade guide for ot-br-posix based OTBR?

Hi,

Some time ago I installed an ot-br-posix based setup and also build and flashed the firmware on USB stick and such and all works fine in a Proxmox Ubuntu VM.

Now with 1.4 around the corner I tried to find any guide on how to upgrade such an installation to the latest, but was not really able to.
Also for a new installation I did not found a place where it tells "hey just do a new install but copy these files over" or such.

Is there anything like that?

There is an update script that attempts to support the upgrade, but I don't know how well it's been tested, if at all.

You could also consider using Docker for OTBR, which makes updating equivalent to updating the Docker image itself.

Thanks, I can try the upgrade ... But I assume I also need to update the firmware on the USB stick, right?

I tried using docker initially but failed back then (can retry ... but then - how to migrate the data from a pure Linux setup?)

I would recommend updating the RCP firmware.

You should only need to reconfigure the Active Operational Dataset. One way is to use ot-ctl, save the hex value, and apply it to the new instance.
