What would be the best way to create views based on a key or a group of keys in the payload?

For example, suppose I have keys in the payload source, data_type and I want have a single query which can efficiently fetch the list of all unique entries of the same followed by filtering on a single selected entry afterwords? What would be the ideal way to set something like that up?
