Question regarding sponsorship and financial support

I was wondering if a sponsorship or some sort of financial support towards to library would allow us to accelerate the development of certain features. For example, I have a few feature requests that would be very useful to my company. I'm wondering if it's acceptable to pay the authors to build these obviously assuming the authors would be open to adding these features and the main limitation is time and resources.
