• Reviewed list of project making use of wheel.exclude.
  • Since existing use of the settings does not seem to be impacted by changing the behavior to exclude files from the wheel path instead of the source, we will move forward with changing the behavior along with adding a not in the documentation and release notes.
• Review of convenient tooling available through the scikit_build_core.builder package

• Hatch can be updated to support running python at wheel build time.

• cmake-python-distribution

  • Move forward with using scikit-build-core (currently only allowing to build cmake 2.7 and 3.6 wheels without the corresponding sdist)
  • Remove support for building 2.7 and 3.6 wheels in follow-up commit
  • Update README indicating that if needed, support for publishing sdist+wheels for Python 2.7 and 3.6 could be restored and maintained in its own branch, but this would require dedicated funding.
