Feature request: object attribute assign

Hi all,

Thank you for this project. It's super cool. I am evaluating it as the primary build tool for my website. I am running into a couple of issues, including:

Liquid error (line 5): syntax error in "%assign page.canonical_url = page.url" in _layouts/post.html

I am filing a couple of issues and am opening to sponsoring to support these features if you have time available.

Does this work in Jekyll? In standard Liquid, you can only assign to a variable, not an object property. (In other words, you can't have a dot on the left sign of the equals.)

Potentially related, but if I remove that canonical url Liquid snippet:

a) I still get the expected results in Jekyll (e.g. use current page if no canonical_url in front matter, use given page if there is canonical_url in front matter)
b) gojekyll uses current page no matter if canonical_url is specified in front matter

This requires modifying liquid. New issue osteele/liquid#113 tracks this.

The latest osteele/liquid implements this. Once a new release of osteele/liquid is created, and this project's dependencies are updated to use it, this feature should be present.
