The usage of the owl.app

I want to use it along with waypipe, so that it'll be possible to remotely render Linux GUI apps or enable lima with GUI abilities just like WSLg and I have successfully built the package owl.app, along with other dependent packages (wayland and epoll-shim).

The only thing that confused me is how can I utilize owl.app. When I opened owl.app there was only a dialog box showing and then exited.

Will there be an example binary or any API documentations available?

IMHO, both the wayland port and owl should fall back to using TMPDIR if XDG_RUNTIME_DIR isn't set. On Mac, TMPDIR is set to a user-specific directory and from what I can tell that location is used for similar things.

I'm not too sure about the rust version of waypipe but the old C version of waypipe produces an executable just fine by doing ./minimal_build.sh .(No clue if it work as intended tho)

I haven't even bothered trying the rust version, but the C version didn't really build out of the box for me (on OS X 10.9.5). And something doesn't work with it: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mstoeckl/waypipe/-/issues/130

The c version of waypipe minimal built for me. I'll see what needs to be done for building on rust.

Using Owl and waypipe-c, I was able to get some weston windows to work.
I'm a bit disappointed, though because most Weston windows crash and none of them resize or move.

Now I understand the basics of wayland protocol. I found out that unlike X11, it seems pretty hard to forward everything needed to render a wayland window through network(socket, shm, fd, etc...). So build and run a local wayland app is more feasible for testing purposes.

@bugaevc is it possible to publish some wayland client demos that could be built and tested on macOS or is there any related documentations that would offer some help?

That's logical: Wayland is intended to be for local use. Think of it as the Mac's own "windowserver" application.
