unread counter doesn't show the number of unread news

The unread counter doesn't show the number of unread news in the chrome toolbar. it display only an "?" The url and account credential are properly set.

I've got the exact same issue. Doesn't matter whether or not I enter the credentials.

I have inspected the console from the plugin and it gives an 401 unauthorized error.
When using curl on the URL that's in the logs ( https://<user>:<password>@<owncloudurl>/index.php/apps/news/api/v1-2/feeds ) , that just works.
