consumed energy change?

I just looked at my stats for today and was shocked - the numbers for "consumed heating today" and "consumed water heating today" were double from what I was used to see. So I took a deeper look. I looks like the data isn't reseted at 0:00 anymore. Was that an intentional change or did Home Assistant change something. I will check the numbers tomorrow again.

Two separate things may be going on here, and it is worth telling them apart before hunting a bug.

The day counters in the heat pump genuinely do not reset to zero at midnight. Stiebel Eltron support confirmed by email that at the day change only the integer part is transferred from the day register into the total register, and the fractional part stays behind in the day register. So a "today" value starting at something other than zero is expected controller behaviour, not a regression in the integration.

But that residue is by definition below 1 kWh, so it cannot explain values that doubled. If you are seeing roughly twice what you expect, that is a second effect and worth chasing separately.

Could you post the concrete numbers, the two "consumed ... today" values just after midnight and the same values a day later, plus your controller model and integration version? With that it should be possible to tell whether this is the residue, a unit issue, or something else.

Damn, I forgot about that here. I had this issue just one day. Looks like it had something to do with the new year or so :)

Closing this as stale. The documented fractional residue behavior was explained above and does not account for a doubling. The concrete values, controller model, and version needed to investigate were never provided. If this still happens on a current release, please open a new discussion with those details.
