DIY Ground Control Station Hotas build

Hello,
I'm currently looking for a way to use my hotas setup through radio system.

I'have came across a github repo that use a multi module compatible emiter module through the SPI bus of a raspberry pi. I'have planned to base my work on it to write a software.

Do i really need to use a CC2500 or i can use whatever multi module i want ? (currently using a Frsky X8R receiver)
Do you guys have module to suggest that is still sold in EU that can be wire through serial?

i'm trying to follow a picture on this q&a but i wonder how to wire the tx/rx
