Live Preview does not work in production build

Hi,

I installed the latest version using the create-payload-app script and selected the website template.

In development mode, everything works fine despite slow compilation times. However, in a production build (rm -rf .next && pnpm run build && pnpm run start), the live preview doesn't work. The only way to make it work is to publish the changes, switch to edit mode, and then back to live preview.

Is live preview expected to work in production?

P.S.: The documentation doesn't mention installing @libsql/client but I had to install it manually. Could this be another omission?

In my case, the problem came from the preview iframe being requested over https while the preview was running on http, which caused an SSL mismatch. I updated the preview URL to use http, preview started working again. So it’s worth checking the preview URL.

Is live preview expected to work in production?

Yes it should just work, but in production you need to configure the right live preview URL target with the right protocol as well as making sure CORS is configured.

Closing for now as others mentioned fixing it with the HTTPS mismatch
