Summary
The new Folders feature is a great addition — it aligns well with how we want to group related content. However, for our use case, it would be extremely useful if the label “Folders” could be renamed to something custom (e.g. “Museum Galleries”).
Use Case
We’re using Payload to manage digital museum content. Each Folder effectively represents a Gallery, where curators and editors can add related Media, Objects, and Experiences. Allowing the “Folders” label (and related UI text) to be renamed would make the interface much more intuitive for end-users and domain-specific projects.
Proposed Solution
Add a configuration option in the collection settings, for example:
This would update UI text such as “Add to Folder,” “Move to Folder,” and “Folders” to use the custom term instead (e.g. “Add to Gallery”).
Benefits
• Improves UX for non-technical editors
• Makes the admin panel adaptable to domain language (e.g. museums, archives, learning modules)
• Increases the flexibility and adoption of the Folders feature across varied projects
