Tab Access in Document Edit View

Context:

In the document edit view, we currently have tabs like Edit, API, and potentially Versions, Live Preview, and custom tabs. Currently, all users with access to the collection/global see all tabs regardless of role, permission, or context.

Request:

Introduce a way to conditionally show or hide tabs based on access logic. This could include:

• Using the existing read access function or a similar conditional function.
• Defining the logic at the collection/global level (i.e., in the collection/global config) rather than per tab manually.
• Supporting both built-in tabs and custom tabs added via plugins or overrides.

Potential Implementation Considerations:

• Use the same read access function as other Payload fields/collections for consistency: (args) => boolean | Promise<boolean).
• Evaluate access when rendering the edit view to prevent flicker or unauthorized access.
• Allow defaults (e.g., tabs visible unless explicitly restricted).

Intended Outcome:

Users can restrict access to specific tabs in the edit view, per role or context, improving UX and security for complex applications.
