Save as published or draft by language

When you have a multi-language site, you often want to create the content, but keep certain versions/languages as drafts. In my case, I have 6 languages, and when I publish the default language (DE), it publishes the rest of the languages. It would be nice to be able to define the publication of the page independently for each language.

Is there any other way to achieve this? We had thought about creating a custom publish button, but we think it would be ideal to use the Payload environment so as not to generate confusion for the content editor.
