DB handling - starter and backup

I'm really next to achieve final form of my product, but sometimes I still have to change Collection fields and it of course affects DB generated tables, causing the classic "DATA LOSS WARNING". My questions are to mitigate some headaches I'm having every time it happens.

tl;dr:

• There's a hook that could let me backup by logic my database before Payload change tables and sometimes I lose data?
• There's some built-in hook/script/whatever to insert data on DB? Even changing Collections, some are not needed to change but I still lose them. Would be easier insert them programmatically after DB wipes out.

Payload is awesome, it's really helping me with my ideas. Very excited to 3.0.
