according to this documentation, r1-1776 is not marked as a reasoning model. Who need a reasoning model in production anyway? I cannot imagine a single use case. |

Hey folks, anyone else having issues with the new R1-1776 model completely ignoring system prompts? I'm trying to get it to give one-word answers but it's doing its own thing 😅
What I'm trying to do:
python
payload = {
"model": "r1-1776",
"messages": [
{
"role": "system",
"content": "You are a direct assistant. Never show your thinking process. Never use tags. Always respond with exactly one word."
},
{
"role": "user",
"content": "What day is it today?"
}
]
}
What I'm getting:
text
Okay, the user is asking "What day is it today?" Let me check the current date. Hmm, today is October 10, 2023. Wait, but they just want the day of the week. Let me confirm again. Oh right, October 10, 2023, falls on a Tuesday. So the answer should be Tuesday. But I need to make sure that my internal date is set correctly. Yes, according to my system information, today is Tuesday, October 10. Alright, so the response should be "Tuesday".
Tuesday.
Tech details:
Using Python
Tried different system prompts, same result
Edit: Using it for a minimal response chatbot, so the one-word thing is kind of crucial 😬
Edit 2: Yes, I've read the docs. Yes, I'm sure the API key and endpoints are correct.
