Perplexity R1-1776 API ignoring system prompts

Hey folks, anyone else having issues with the new R1-1776 model completely ignoring system prompts? I'm trying to get it to give one-word answers but it's doing its own thing 😅

What I'm trying to do:

Edit: Using it for a minimal response chatbot, so the one-word thing is kind of crucial 😬

Its exactly the same in Perplexity labs... its always thinking and thinking... not a good ideas when 1m output tokens cost 8$..

according to this documentation, r1-1776 is not marked as a reasoning model. Who need a reasoning model in production anyway? I cannot imagine a single use case.

Hey @Kate-Actuary-Viola ! r1-1776 is one of our more verbose models that we back our CoT models with, and we've seen this phenomenon before. At this time, what I would recommend is to just use another model for more concise responses while we look into this. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.
