Provide a .deb package

Hi,

can you provide a .deb package for an easy way to install ripgrep-all on all Debian based systems?

Recently ripgrap-all has been added as a search backend to KDE's Dolphin:

Of course, rga must be installed first to allow Dolphin use it.

Besides, having a .deb release will make it possible to add ripgrep-all to deb-get:

@sbstn87 have you considered just installing nix? It will happily coexist with Debian's package manager, and will give you access to many other packages as well.

Thanks for your suggestion. This how I already use it.

But I don't know how will it integrate with Dolphin.

It has already been requested some time ago.

Then just nobody was interested in it enough to do so.

@sbstn87 Based on the docs for this tool that Artim96 linked, it doesn't sound like it would be difficult to build and test your own .deb locally. I would recommend that you go ahead and just give it a try! If you find a successful approach you could raise a PR directly, and if not then reporting back in this thread with your findings would still be valuable. :)

I have claimed the RFP bug in Debian and am working on a rga package.

@lafrenierejm the only thing missing is porting rga to async-zip 0.0.17 since that is the version in Debian. I have tried my hand at a patch but this is beyond my rust skills

@werdahias Just to confirm: Are you stating that the version of the async-zip crate dependency needs to be bumped from its current version of 0.0.12 to 0.0.17 before rga can be successfully packaged for Debian? If so, I'd be glad to take a stab at updating that dependency.

@werdahias Are https://release.debian.org/#release-dates the dates you're referring to? If so, which is the first freeze that would apply to your work to get rga into the release?

As per the second headline under soft freeze:

No new packages and no re-entry to testing

This means if the package hasn't landed in testing at this point, it won't be allowed to migrate to testing until the work for Debian 14 has started. But also, a few paragraphs before that, the best option is always: talk to the release team, they are the ones that enforce the rules and they are the ones that could make exceptions.
