Behind The Scenes of Bun Install

Hi!

today I read a interessting article from Bun's dev team (a nodejs/npm competitor) - how they made it faster.
they shared a lot of in-detail technical insights which maybe can also be applied to php-src.
I am not in a position to judge whether php-src is already doing this kind of stuff (or parts of it) and whether its applicable at all.

I just leave it here, so anyone interessted can have a read.

one thing which came to my mind was, whether php-src utilizes the clonefile/clonefile syscalls

You probably meant copyfile/clonefile, it is not a 100% copy replacement solution, e.g. clonefile works only on the same volume, copyfile can be pretty slow etc ... could be considered tough.

PHP also doesn't particularly do much file copying. In terms of providing a more optimized file stream API, @bukka would be the right person to talk to. Data-layout is a known avenue for optimizations, but that's not a particularly new insight. Same with frequent context switches (i.e. system calls). There doesn't seem to be anything immediately actionable, so I'm closing this issue. Thanks anyway for the heads up.
