Hey! Thanks for the feedback - your reaction makes total sense. The reality is that maintaining the project has long ago turned into a full-time daily job. To be able to keep working on it, we have to make it sustainable and find a way to fund ongoing development. For a user, installing PLANKA might take 30 minutes, but for us it represents months of design, discussion, decisions, implementation, and maintenance behind the scenes. Originally, "Pro" started as just a private fork for our own needs, but over time it evolved into quite a different codebase. At that point, we could have simply started selling that version and let the GitHub version go its own way - but many of the most requested features were already in that private fork and we couldn't move them just by copying files. That's why we decided to publish everything we had as And just to be clear - we're not trying to "be Trello". The subscription model is simply our best guess for how to make PLANKA sustainable. If Pro were a one-time purchase, we wouldn't have a reliable way to provide continuous updates, security fixes, or ongoing maintenance. Of course, this is just our decision for now - things could change, we simply don't have yet enough experience with sales to know which option would be the best fit. Also, Pro features won't necessarily stay locked forever. As I mentioned, we've already released a lot of our previously private development because we felt it was the right thing to do. Over time, we do plan to move more things to the Community version, but first we need to see how things progress. It's even possible that, eventually, we merge everything into a single version on GitHub. |

It's really disappointing that this open source self hosted don't need the cloud get away from Trello project is only offering PRO features on a monthly billing cycle.
No option to purchase outright and support the project & neat features tucked behind subscription has me feeling real dumb for being so hyped for 2.0 for the last year that's for sure.
Why not an option to purchase Pro as a one time payment? Feels like you are going the Trello route and taking advantage here.
I won't be paying for Pro just to get a couple usable features that are locked behind a subscription.
We came to Planka to escape Trello, and now it seems you are trying to be Trello.
Charging roughly the same price per seat as Trello for less features and functions is also a choice.
Thanks for Planka 1.0 at least.
