Jellyfin is an open-source fork of Emby that has emerged recently as the Emby userbase has become frustrated with loads of features being put behind the subscription model (Emby Premiere).

Jellyfin serves as a great media alternative to Plex, which is based of a forked project known as Emby. Users of JellyFin enjoy and make the case argument that JellyFin is not invasive at all such as Plex has become on the stance of a user's privacy.
Emby started originally following the GNU model but has violated it. Needless to say, Emby is not happy with Jellyfin's existence and has refused to allow many smart TVs and related gadgets work with it.

Just keep in mind that other paths can be used, but the one's provided keep one's user library simple!
