get-pnpsitegroup and get-pnpgroup showing other local SP Site groups associated with site

I have a script that I'm writing to get all local and o365 group owners, when I use get-pnpsitegroup or get-pnpgroup on one particular site it has hundreds of local Sharepoint groups associated with other sites in its output.

they all have zero roles assigned to them and I'm a bit perplexed on a. how they got there and b. how to remove them.
