Bitbucket account card displays an incorrect profile picture and @username

The problem

Attempting to login with my bitbucket account through the "Accounts" settings page appears to work correctly at a glance: The oauth page is opened in the browser and upon accepting it an account is listed as a connected bitbucket account.
However the account listed does not display a profile picture and uses the display name for both the display name and the @[user] username tag. Attempting to access a private repo or push to a public repo also fails with a generic "Authentication failed" message.

Let's address each of the 3 issues you mention:

the account listed does not display a profile picture

I have tested both with and without a profile picture, and it seems to display correctly in both cases. Could you double-check your Bitbucket account has a profile picture?

The bitbucket integration does not provide repo access at the moment. You should set up ssh keys for that:

ssh-keygen -t ed25519 -b 4096 -C "your.email@yourcompany.com" -f ~/.ssh/bitbucket
cat ~/.ssh/bitbucket.pub

Copy the public key that was printed, go to Bitbucket SSH keys, click "Add key" and paste it there.
Once you've done that, cloning and pushing should work fine, just make sure to use the SSH URL when cloning.

I can confirm that I do have a profile picture on my bitbucket account, it just isn't being shown on github desktop plus:

Since I cannot reproduce the profile picture issue, I will need your help. Please follow these steps:

1. From the GitHub Desktop window, open the developer tools by pressing Ctrl+Shift+I
2. Go to the "Network" tab
3. Refresh the window by pressing Ctrl+Alt+R
4. You should see a list similar to this one:

5. Click on the Bitbucket user request (highlighted above)
6. In the newly opened panel, go to the "Response" tab:

7. Copy the response body and paste it here. Feel free to redact some fields if they contain sensitive information. However, make sure to keep the links.avatar block intact, as that is the profile picture used in the app.

When the pfp is displayed in the options popup https://avatar-management--avatars.us-west-2.prod.public.atl-paas.net/initials/FB-0.png is loaded instead of https://secure.gravatar.com/avatar/2097a1ba247078d84d022ce7177cca28?d=https%3A%2F%2Favatar-management--avatars.us-west-2.prod.public.atl-paas.net%2Finitials%2FFB-0.png and it does not appear to be redirected.

Please note that you might need to logout from your Bitbucket account and sign in again.

I can confirm that it now displays the correct profile picture, and that I didn't need to logout+login to my bitbucket account for it to work!

That's great to hear! Does it display the correct username as well?

If you didn't need to logout+login, your auth token might expire in a few hours, which will log you out. If that happens, just log in again.

I may have:

1. Opened the settings page.
2. Read the display name instead of the @[user] username tag.
3. Saw the space separating both words in my display name and immediately clicked logout.
4. Finally realised that I didn't actually read the correct part and thus didn't actually know if the username fix needed a relog.

Upon logging back in I did verify that it was displaying the username correctly, and reopening the old version made it show the display name in place of the username again so I suspect other users won't need to relog? I assume that if I needed to have relogged, the old version would have started showing the username correctly after I relogged in the new version.
