Volume slider in applet does't update when changing volume with keyboard

I have a knob on my keyboard that emits volume up/down keyboard events when it is turned. The OSD pops up and shows the correct percentage when the volume is changed. However the volume slider in the audio applet just stays at 100%. I can change the volume with that slider, but being at 100% is maxes out the volume while it's being slid to a lower value. If the volume is changed with the keyboard is stays on whatever value it was on last and doesn't update. I see there was this commit from last year that aimed to address this, but it seems there's more to it. bffc9b2
