Add Custom Date Formats

I'd like the ability to add a custom date format (Day, YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM) under time and language. YYYY-MM-DD is less ambiguous than the American Standard. I used to be able to do this with a GNOME extension.

Just the ability to date format, even from the terminal, would be nice. Thanks!

Not sure if I am reading this enhancement request correctly, but I would like to also be able to add the Day (i.e. "Wednesday" without quotes) to the calendar display on a panel.

That, but I'd like it to say "Tuesday 2025-09-30". Really, let the user decide the format! (Used yesterday as it is immediately clear that day of the month is last).

I'm sure others want other formats. So I just want to be able to format it, even if from the terminal.

You should move or reopen this in pop-os/cosmic-applets. I think the idea has to pass the design team first, but if it does I can try to implement it.

@RokeJulianLockhart Because it's been added to the applet as a feature (hence the issue in the applets repo being closed), but a GUI setting to configure it hasn't been implemented (or fully ruled out) yet.

These are PRs concerning GUIs for the feature:

• COSMIC Settings: Setting to format date and time with strftime cosmic-settings#1523
• COSMIC Tweaks: Format date and time with strftime cosmic-utils/tweaks#125

It can't be added to COSMIC Settings with the current form of UX (it would need to be more drag-and-drop and less typing in a string, probably), but it seems like a good fit for COSMIC Tweaks, although that's a third-party project and it's up to its maintainer whether it'll be accepted there.
