Show plot in pane from notebook

Hi, is it possible to show a plot in the PLOTS pane from a notebook, instead of (or in addition to) showing it inline? Perhaps calling an API? Thanks!

I think what we'd need to make this really nice is outlined in #3801, if you'd like to give a 👍 there or add any additional details on your use case.

As of today, you would need to directly run the code from the notebook in the console to see the output in the Plots pane:
