usethis::edit_r_profile() not working. Wrong slashes in the path on Windows

Hi there,

usethis::edit_r_profile() at some point stopped working for me on windows. I vaguely remember I used it on an older version of positron and it worked back then. I just tried it on 2025.08.0-130 and 2025.07.0-204 and it works on neither.

When I run it, I get the following tab.

If I click Try Again, I get a pop up with the following error,

 Unable to resolve resource C:%5CUsers%5CUSERNAME%5CDocuments%5C.Rprofile

I am assuming that %5C is a backslash \ and that is causing the problem to the path on Windows.

Currently, as a workaround, I just click on the path printed out in the console, and it will open the file for me.

☐ Modify C:/Users/USERNAME/Documents/.Rprofile
☐ Restart R for changes to take effect.

I tried it on the default R GUI and it works so I am assuming it has something to do with Positron.

Something like

usethis::edit_file(tempfile())
# or
file <- tempfile()
rstuidoapi::navigateToFile(file)

gives the same error

I am not sure if I have some configuration wrong. Would appreciate any help.

I believe this is the same as #8374, for which a fix by @lionel- is in flight in #8816. Want to take a look and see if you agree?

yep this is it, and I've just confirmed the edit_r_profile() works as expected with the fix.
