Problem

Right now, there is no easy way to do so, only workarounds using helper functions and using ui.output elements, which is very limited, as it does not allow for dynamic updates of all text, e.g. for action_buttons etc.

Solution

I would like to have a configurable language selector that automatically updates all static/dynamic text outputs in the app, based on a dictionary file.

Unfortunately, this is a large feature that many users will not agree about the wording. I do not believe this will be planned to be implemented. (Closing Issue)

There are two approaches for getting your UI to change:

1. Use ui.update_*() methods to update the text of elements. Ex: https://shiny.posit.co/py/api/core/ui.update_action_button.html shows an example of how to update an action button label.
2. Use dynamic UI. By supplying your UI within dynamic UI, your app can be recreated when switching languages.
   • This approach is destructive when compared to updating labels.

Non-shiny UI item text can be made dynamic by using ui.output_text() to display the latest language value.
