Starting from v1.38.0 metrics package supports PrometheusHistogram metric type with le bucket labels.

good point, I've fixed it with #58 but didn't update the README. will do that now!

the flag is already available with the current (and previous) release fyi, it's called prom-histogram and defautls to false.
